Abstract:This collection contains material relating to jazz music, swing music, big band music and contemporary music including lp records, cds and some book material. Materials are arranged by physical format and by artist.

Biographical Note

This collection of popular music in the jazz/swing album era was compiled by Donald Halm during his lifetime.

Scope and Contents Note

This collection reflects the musical interests of the collector Don Halm who had a lifetime passion for jazz and record album collecting. It includes jazz and swing music, contemporary music and complete boxed sets of big band music from the 1920s through 2003. Records are organized by format and by artist name. Boxed sets are filed in a separate series, as they were collected by Mr. Halm. There are also CDs included as part of the collection.

This collection was donated as part of the estate of Donald Halm, Okemos, Michigan through his son Ted Halm, Big Rapids, Michigan in October 2013.

Processing Information Note

The Don Halm Jazz Music Collection was processed to the item level by Melinda Isler, Alex Costas and Angela Cool. A finding aid was prepared and converted to EAD 2.0, utilizing the Archivists Toolkit. A collection level MARC-format record was prepared and placed in the library online public access catalog. Description was based on Describing Archives: A Content Standard (Chicago: Society of American Archivists, 2004).
