BIG RAPIDS, Mich. —

Ferris State University’s College of Pharmacy raised an impressive $26,930 during One Day for Dawgs last year, highlighting the commitment of the College’s alumni, faculty, and staff in bulldog student success.

Contributions from generous donors supported the College of Pharmacy Opportunity Fund, Alumni Board Fund, and Student Lounge Project. Each cause helps to provide essential financial assistance to students, increased access to professional development or travel networking opportunities, and enriching physical spaces for rigorous study.

Dean Stephen W. Durst remains steadfast in the College of Pharmacy’s commitment that students receive the resources needed to successfully complete their education and transition into their careers.

“Throughout the 2024-2025 academic year, we awarded thousands of dollars to assist students in many academic pursuits,” Durst said. “This meaningful collaboration between our students and the generous alumni of the College of Pharmacy ensures that every future pharmacist in our program feels supported as they navigate their education and begin their career.”

One of the most significant areas of focus for alumni support is the Opportunity Fund, established to assist students facing unexpected financial hardships that could otherwise derail their path to graduation. Whether facing emergency housing costs, unexpected childcare expenses, or tuition assistance for students who have exhausted all other financial aid options, the Opportunity Fund plays a crucial role in keeping students on track to earn their PharmD.

“As requests for assistance have increased, it is essential to grow a fund that can support incoming requests—both large and small—on an annual basis,” Durst said. “Our goal is to raise $30,000 total to help students overcome these obstacles, and we may increase that target this year to further ensure student needs are met.”

The College of Pharmacy at Ferris State is ranked among the top programs in the nation. Emphasizing excellence in education, practice, and research, the college prepares students for impactful careers.  Dean Durst is proud of the program’s continued work expanding educational opportunities for future pharmacists.

“The College of Pharmacy is one of the University’s most recognized programs thanks to the consistent excellence of our students, faculty, and staff,” he said.

“Healthcare is undergoing a transformation that will bring significant changes in patient care both at the individual and population levels. Ferris State University’s College of Pharmacy will remain a leading source of expert and compassionate graduates who will shape the future of the pharmacy profession.”

Additionally, One Day for Dawgs plays a key role in advancing the College’s mission.

“The continued growth of One Day for Dawgs sends a message to everyone connected to the University that Ferris State succeeds through the generosity and dedication of our alumni, faculty, staff, community, and most importantly, our incredible students,” said Durst.

Ferris State is preparing for another record-breaking year and encourages all supporters to participate in the annual One Day for Dawgs giving day on April 9, 2025. One Day for Dawgs empowers the university community to give back to the causes they care most about. Funds raised through One Day for Dawgs support scholarships, programs, research, and student needs across campus.
