BIG RAPIDS, Mich. —

Ferris State University senior Benji Zorn, the 2024 Disc Golf Singles national champion, says he is “beyond excited” to defend his title at next month’s tournament.

The Ferris State team is preparing to travel to Rock Hill, South Carolina for the 2025 College Disc Golf National Championship, April 2-5. Zorn is ready for him and his teammates to make a run at national success.

Ferris State is also historically strong on the women’s side, with Delaney Beckett, of Macomb, currently ranked 20th on the women’s list. Zorn, on the men’s side, is ranked 34th.

The women’s team is ranked sixth, while the men’s team ranks 10th nationally.

“Our team has worked tirelessly throughout the season to get to where we are now. I know we’re going to crush it,” said Zorn, a third-year Disc Golf Team competitor and a Business Administration major from Grand Rapids. “We started the year strong with a conference win but struggled in our next two regionals as an ‘A’ team. However, our ‘B,’ ‘C’ and women’s teams have dominated all season. After a successful tournament in Kentucky, our team fully understands what it takes to win. We’re ready.”

Ethan Boswell, an Accounting major from Holmen, Wisconsin, is in his third year on the Ferris State Disc Golf Team. Like Zorn, Boswell cites work ethic as a key to the Ferris State team’s ongoing success.

“I can’t stress enough what Benji said. This team has put in the work. Over the winter and early spring alone, we have had 100 hours of organized practice,” Boswell said. “The team has been working to compete well at the national championships.”

Upholding the Ferris State team’s tradition of success is a serious undertaking throughout the year. The Ferris State Disc Golf Men’s Team was previously crowned national champions in 2015, 2017 and 2019. The Women’s Team earned its first national title in 2021.

“In the three short years I’ve been part of the disc golf team, we have all grown to be close friends,” Boswell said. “I think that this is going to help us have trust in our teammates out on the course, which is essential on the tough courses we are set to play. The team has never been more ready, mentally and physically.”

In 2024, the team finished fourth – ahead of 44 competitors at Winthrop University.

“I expect big things from our entire team. I know we’ll accomplish our goals,” Zorn said. “Personally, I can’t wait to defend my title on one of the most historic properties in disc golf history. I’ve poured hundreds of hours into preparing my mind and strengthening my body for this tournament. I’m going to give it my all and leave everything out on the course.”

The women’s team is ranked sixth, while the men’s team ranks 10th nationally.

“For our women’s team, we feel equipped mentally and with the skills necessary to be successful,” said Beckett, a Spanish for the Professions major. “We are going to leave it all out on the course and represent Ferris with our skills, attitude, and conduct.  We’ve become a family. This support allows us to play our best. It also drives us to push harder and better ourselves. We are just playing not only for us as individuals. We are also playing for each other. We want to win for each other. We want to make our teammates, Leonard, our coaches, and the Ferris disc golf dynasty proud.”
