BIG RAPIDS, Mich. —

Traditional, popular elements of the 35th International Festival of Cultures are returning with some new twists as the Ferris State University event has joined the Big Rapids Festival of the Arts schedule.

The 2025 International Festival of Cultures is set for 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23 in the David L. Eisler Center ballrooms, 805 Campus Drive.

The Office of International Education coordinates the festival, and its executive director, Tara Braun, said "Travel" is this year's theme.

"It is wonderful to have Ferris State's President's Office, the Big Rapids Festival of the Arts board and so many other community contributors help this great event change and grow," Braun said. "New collaborations for 2025 include a kickoff by the Ferris Pep Band and international selections from Voca Lyrica."

Braun also noted a percussion performance by Ferris State alum and Mecosta County Commissioner Chris Jane. She added that these additions complement the talent and cultural enrichment of our students, faculty, and staff, making the festival a community favorite.

Taste treats from around the globe remain a foundational element of the festival. Braun said acquiring items at serving stations has been modified for greater access and convenience.

"Individual tickets for Ferris students are still 50 cents and will be available for all other guests at a dollar each, but we have added electronic-based purchasing with punch cards for food tasting to support simpler transactions," Braun said. "Our students are proud to present recipes their families have enjoyed for generations. These delicacies smell and taste great and are a real highlight of the festival experience."

Braun stressed the festival is a free event, and the ballrooms offer easy access and comfort for all ages in the greater community.

"Everyone involved hopes those who visit campus frequently, or perhaps only come in for the festival, will be sure to join us," Braun said. "We are excited to celebrate our students and share this enjoyable opportunity each year."

Those requiring accommodation to attend the International Festival of Cultures should contact the Office of International Education at (231) 591-2450 or by email.
