BIG RAPIDS, Mich. —

Ferris State University is hosting an opportunity for students to welcome their family and friends from home to spend time with them on campus for a fun, activity-packed weekend.

Family and Friends Weekend is planned for Feb. 21-22 and features a wide range of activities for students and their guests to enjoy a positive Ferris State experience.

“This event is a perfect opportunity for students to invite their families and friends to campus to show off everything Ferris State and the community have to offer,” said Justin Harden, director of University Recreation and Wellness Programs. “It’s an opportunity for families to visit campus, interact with the campus community and get a glimpse of everyday life on campus.”

Harden spoke of the collaborative work the Student Affairs division engages in each year to create an experience that includes a diverse range of activities for families and friends.

The winter weather can sometimes take a toll on students, but Family and Friends Weekend is preparing to brighten the mood for students.

“I think this event gives our students a fun weekend, and they look forward to it,” Harden said. “It’s an opportunity to see those they care about the most, and those that support them the most. Winter can be hard for a lot of people. This is a fun weekend where students can relax, spend time with their families and friends, and showcase this university and the many great things we do for our students.”

The weekend kicks off with registration from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21. People registering receive wristbands and information about the weekend’s activities. Registration will take place in the Student Recreation Center’s main lobby. Parking for registration is available in 4E next to the SRC.

Ferris State students can register for Family and Friends Weekend via Ferris360.

Friday wraps up with a movie night, featuring Wicked showing from 7 to 10 p.m. in the David L. Eisler Center ballroom, 805 Campus Drive. Popcorn, drinks and candy will be provided.

Saturday begins early with an additional opportunity to register followed by a Family and Friends Tailgate Party from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center.

The tailgate will have catered good, activities and fames and giveaways. As the tailgate wraps up, guests will head over to Jim Wink Arena for the Ferris State men’s and women’s basketball games against Wisconsin Parkside. The women’s game starts at 1 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 3 p.m.

Tickets for the men’s and women’s basketball games can be purchased online.

The day and evening continue as the Tom DeLuca College Comedy Hypnosis Show, hosted by University Recreation, returns to campus from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in Williams Auditorium. DeLuca is a four-time National College Entertainer of the Year. The show is free.

The weekend concludes at the Ewigleben Ice Arena for a free open skate night from 9 to 10:30 p.m., hosted by the Center for Student Involvement. People can bring their own skates or rent a pair at the ice arena.
