March Madness: Ferris State basketball teams open GLIAC Tournament at home on Wednesday

The Ferris State University men's and women's basketball squads will open their quests for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Championship at home on Wednesday, inside the university’s Jim Wink Arena.
The third-seeded Bulldog women's basketball squad will meet sixth-seeded Roosevelt University in quarterfinal-round action beginning at 5:30 p.m. with the third-seeded men's basketball squad hosting sixth-seeded Wayne State University in the opening round at 7:30 p.m.
Ferris State is 19-10 overall this year on the women's basketball side and finished tied for third in the GLIAC with a 13-7 league mark. Roosevelt owns a 12-14 mark and was 10-10 in league regular season play.
On the men's side, the Bulldogs are 24-7 overall this season and compiled a 14-6 league record while Wayne State is 15-13 overall and went 11-9 in conference play.
Ferris State split a pair of women's games versus Roosevelt during regular season play as each won on the road. The men also split with Wayne State as the home squad claimed each victory in the regular season.
Both of Wednesday's games will be carried live by local flagship station Sunny 97.3 FM and the Bulldog Sports Network. Pregame coverage begins at 5 p.m. with a free audio webcast also offered at FerrisStateBulldogs.com.
The two games will also be streamed live on FloSports with video coverage provided by Ferris State Television.
Tickets for Wednesday's league tourney quarterfinal at home are on sale now and are available for purchase online at FerrisStateBulldogs.com/Tickets.
Ticket prices for the league quarterfinal games are $10 for adults or $2 for all students older than age five, including college students with identification. The first 100 Ferris State students for each game with a valid ID card will earn free admission on Wednesday at the door starting one hour prior to game time.
All seats are general admission and no regular season passes of any type except an official GLIAC pass will be accepted per league tournament regulations. All Rebounders and Sixth Dawg Club members must also purchase tickets for postseason play per GLIAC policy.

Four quarterfinal-round games will be played on Wednesday with the winners advancing to the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals and Finals on Saturday and Sunday, March 8-9.
The winners of the GLIAC Tournament receive an automatic bid into the respective NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournaments slated to be held March 14-17 for the women and March 15-18 for the men at campus sites yet to be determined.
This year will represent Ferris State’s 25th overall GLIAC Tournament appearance in men's basketball. The Bulldogs are 26-21 all-time in league tourney action. The team has captured six league tourney titles in program history, including 1997-98 along with 2015-18 in addition to last season in 2023-24. Ferris State will be making its 11th-straight GLIAC Tournament appearance this year.
Ferris State has posted a 16-19 overall record in 21 previous league women's basketball tournament appearances and will be making its eighth-straight appearance in the field after making its first since the 2012-13 campaign back in 2018.
Ferris State has finished as the tournament runner-up three times and reached the semifinal round in 11 of its 12 previous trips to the league event. The Bulldogs captured their first GLIAC Tourney Championship three years ago by beating rival Grand Valley State University on the Lakers' home floor in the tournament title game.
Heading into the quarterfinal-round, both Ferris State teams also presently are ranked fourth in the most recent NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Rankings and hold strong NCAA Tournament hopes entering conference tournament action.
The top eight teams in the region following respective league tournament competition, including three automatic bids, will earn NCAA Tournament bids when the official selections are announced on Sunday (March 9) evening starting at 10:30 p.m. for the women and 11 p.m. for the men at NCAA.com.
