Deadline approaching for Ferris State students to take advantage of ScholarshipUniverse portal

The deadline is approaching for Ferris State University students to take advantage of the ScholarshipUniverse portal, which puts newly admitted and current students on a personalized fast track to internal and external financial assistance opportunities for the 2025-26 academic year, making a college education more affordable.
Assistant Director of Financial Aid Melanie Mulder said university-based scholarship awards have an application window that runs through midnight on Friday, Feb. 28.
A variety of scholarships are available for students at Ferris State and Ferris State’s Kendall College of Art and Design through the portal, available here.
ScholarshipUniverse will automatically consider students in the pool for some scholarships when they log in. The system also presents a dashboard with questions that will create scholarship matches, where qualification may include a student’s participation in registered student organizations or where additional action like submitting an essay or answering a bank of questions is required for consideration.”
Approximately 10,000 external scholarship opportunities are also listed through ScholarshipUniverse. Mulder said completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, known as FAFSA, helps determine a student’s status as a recipient for awards where financial need is a factor.
The free portal accentuates the need-based qualifications and consideration in those cases where it applies.
Mulder said there are certain awards with unique steps required, such as having an alumnus family member and faculty or staff person submit letters to gain consideration for the Ferris Alumni Legacy Endowed Scholarship. ScholarshipUniverse will hasten their inclusion to the applicant pool with that award.
Ferris State specialists can assist students and families in completing the FAFSA by calling the FAFSA hotline at 231-591-2110 and by emailing [email protected]. Additional information is available on the university’s “Completing the FAFSA” webpage located here.
