BIG RAPIDS, Mich. —

Alan Morin, a 2022 Ferris State University Distinguished Alumnus, added to an already storied career in golf by earning the Senior PGA Professional Championship on Sunday.

Morin is a 1992 graduate of Ferris State’s College of Business and the PGA Golf Management program. He is the PGA assistant golf professional at The Club at Ibis in Royal Palm Beach, Florida.

Morin came close to a Senior PGA Professional Championship several times, finishing tied for third in 2022, tied for fourth in 2021 and tied for eighth in 2020.

The win marks Morin’s first time hoisting the Leo Fraser Trophy. He also won the 2024 South Florida Senior PGA Professional Championship in August.

Morin registered an impressive 6-under-par 65 on the Sunriver Resort’s Meadows course in Oregon on Sunday to finish the week at 14-under-par 271 and win by two. His 65 matched the record for the lowest fourth-round score in championship history.

“To finally be able to put everything together and not make too many mistakes, it’s quite a sense of accomplishment just from playing golf for many years, being in this business and being able to compete against a lot of really good players,” Morin told PGA of America. “I was playing steady. I was playing really well. I hit a lot of greens.”

Morin was honored with a Ferris State Distinguished Alumnus award in 2022 in recognition of his career and community work.

He makes volunteering a priority and has served organizations and charities, including First Tee of Palm Beach, hospice, Bucky Dent Baseball Camp for Kids, and Multiple Sclerosis research. Morin has also served as a rules official or starter on the tee for the South Florida PGA Junior Tour.

Morin has played in more than 150 PGA and Senior PGA tournaments, including two U.S. Opens, six PGA Championships, two Senior PGA Championships, 12 Honda Classics, four Ford Championships at Doral and four Puerto Rico Opens. In addition, Morin has represented the USA on the 2003 and 2015 PGA Cup Teams and was elected to the 2021 PGA South Florida Hall of Fame.

At Ferris State, he was a golf team member from 1989 to 1991. The 1989 squad won the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship.

“I wouldn’t trade the experience I had at Ferris for anything,” Morin said in a 2007 interview. “The students in the PGM program were very closely knit. The program is absolutely fantastic. I tell people to go to Ferris for PGM if they are interested in getting into the golf business. It’s the best one of all the schools.”

Morin has been active in alumni activities, attending the PGM Alumni Receptions at the PGA merchandise shows in Orlando and returning to the university for the annual PGM Alumni Tournament at Katke Golf Course.
