Annual Legacy Scholarship celebration honors students with a Ferris State University family tradition

Ferris State University saluted 27 students with $41,000 in scholarship awards made possible through the annual efforts of Ferris State alumni and supporters.

Ferris State University President Bill Pink talks during the Legacy Scholarship Celebration in the David L. Eisler Center on Saturday, Sept. 7.
The university presented the scholarships last weekend during the Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship celebration in the David L. Eisler Center.
“These resources are created by contributions to One Day for Dawgs, or by bringing friends and family to our Ferris State ‘nights’ with the Detroit Red Wings, Pistons or Tigers, for example,” said Brandi Behrenwald, executive director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving. “Our endowment had ample funds to give at least $1,000 to each recipient for their education costs and based on need. We made determinations that boosted awards on up to $2,000.”
The Legacy Scholarship recipients are the children, siblings, or grandchildren of Ferris State graduates. Successful candidates showed their qualifications to an Alumni Association committee.
Behrenwald described the luncheon as a heartwarming event.
“President Bill Pink and others helped us to really consider how these students are advancing family legacies, as the next generation of Bulldog leaders who will offer their talents and time in so many communities,” Brandi said. “We look forward to following their accomplishments and staying close to their stories of excellence, as students and professionals.”
