Ferris State Accounting professor Emily Zoet plans to use experience in statewide leadership role to bring knowledge to students

Ferris State University assistant professor Emily Zoet is serving in a leadership role with a statewide accounting organization, and says she’ll pass along what she’ll learn about the profession to her students.
Zoet is serving on the board of directors for the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants, founded in 1901 to advocate for people working in the accounting field, spark collaboration, and provide education. The organization has about 17,500 members across the state, with about six percent working in education.
“My first board meeting was in September, where I felt their excitement in having a teaching professional among their directors,” she said. “I know this will be a rewarding experience for myself and what it will bring to my instruction at Ferris.”
Zoet, a former member of the university’s Administration and Finance team, transitioned to the Accounting faculty several years ago.
“I have been a member of the MICPA since my days as an undergraduate student and maintained my affiliation throughout my career,” she said. “I joined a MICPA resource group when I started teaching in the College of Business. I felt it was important to be aware of the latest developments in this field so I could apply that to my instruction.”
Zoet committed to a quarterly schedule of the board of directors’ meetings. She said there will likely be other MICPA functions ahead, and she is happy to be involved and contributing.
