Internship Spotlight: Jade Wight
Jade Wight is a Business Administration student with a minor in Digital Marketing, graduating in December 2024. Wight interned at the Ada Business Association in Ada, Michigan. Ada Business is a non-profit organization whose main focus is supporting Ada’s local businesses.
Wight’s main tasks with this group were managing the group’s social media: LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram. She would take pictures of events and post about what happened at them. She was also in charge of notifying the members on social media about upcoming events.
When she began her journey here at Ferris State University, she wasn’t sure how her education would go, so she started in Business Administration. After taking some marketing classes, she became very interested in the subject and realized this was her career path.
Wight stated, “Our generation is good with social media… I felt like I could help companies because social media is very big for them, and a lot of people don’t know how to run their social media.”
When she applied for the internship, she didn’t know what to expect when applying but found it was exactly what she was looking for.
Wight noted, “I am an anxious person. So, in Ada, a lot of the events are for companies promoting themselves. So networking was important… I got more confident through the season.”
When the Internship started, Wight was surprised at how much hands-on experience and involvement she got from working directly on the social media posts.
Wight’s advice for future interns is to “Put yourself out there… I’m an anxious person, but going into the business world, you can’t be. You have to just talk to people. You have to be uncomfortable in those situations to be comfortable… and people will be so nice and will help you.”
According to the U.S Bureau of Labor and Statistics Occupational Outlook, Marketers have an expected 8% growth rate in the next 10 years.
