Ferris State Hockey Crimson & Gold Intrasquad Game & Skate With Bulldogs Event Saturday

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team will hold its Crimson and Gold Intrasquad Game this Saturday, Sept. 30, at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena as part of homecoming weekend in Big Rapids.

The contest, which is slated to begin at 6 p.m. (ET), will feature two 12-minute periods. Warmups will begin on the ice shortly before 5:30 p.m. and fans are invited to "Skate With The Dawgs" following the event around 7:15 p.m.

Admission to the contest is free with donations to the Little Kevin Courtney Youth Hockey Fund being accepted at the door. The fund was established by Kevin and Julie Courtney in honor of their late son and funds raised help offset costs for under priviledged kids who wish to be involved in youth hockey.

Following the contest, the popular "Skate With The Bulldogs" will be held involving the Ferris State student-athletes and staff until approximately 7:45 p.m.

The Bulldogs, who have reached the NCAA Final Eight three times since 2012, will embark on their 43rd campaign this coming fall and again face perhaps one of the country's toughest schedules as they seek their fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament in the last seven years. This year will mark FSU's 40th season of NCAA Division I hockey.

The 2017-18 schedule is again highlighted by matchups against every other in-state Division I opponent from Michigan, including non-conference showdowns against Michigan, Michigan State and Western Michigan. Five of the six will make the trek to FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena, including home-and-home series' against both MSU and WMU, while the Bulldogs will face Michigan twice in Ann Arbor.

Overall, the Bulldogs will play host to five of the other six D1 programs from Michigan this coming year. It will represent the second-straight year in which the Bulldogs have faced every Michigan opponent in the same campaign after doing so this past season for the first time since 1995-96.

Along with the premier matchups against the in-state foes, the Bulldogs will also entertain challenging conference rivals such as Bemidji State and Bowling Green as part of a 16-game regular-season home schedule.

Since 2012, the Bulldogs have made three NCAA Tournament appearances and advanced to the NCAA Final Eight all three times. FSU has also won two conference regular-season championships along with capturing the WCHA's Broadmoor Trophy once as the league's Final Five Champion. Along with a Frozen Four berth and national title game showing in 2012, FSU also has reached the regional final and the final eight of the NCAA Tournament in both 2014 and 2016.

FSU opens the regular-season with a home-and-home series on Oct. 6-7 against rival Western Michigan. The season opener is Friday, Oct. 6, at Lawson Ice Arena in Kalamazoo before the two teams play the series' finale at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena on Saturday, Oct. 7, beginning at 7:07 p.m. (ET).

Single-game tickets for all 2017-18 home contests are now on sale and can be purchased thru the FSU Athletics Ticket Office. Call (231) 591-2888 for information or visit FerrisStateBulldogs.com.

2018-2019 FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid

The 2018-2019 FAFSA – Free Application For Federal Student Aid – fafsa.ed.gov will be available beginning Sunday, October 1.

The 2018-19 FAFSA will be based on 2016 tax year information. Students are encouraged to complete the FAFSA on or as soon after October 1 as possible in order to receive the best possible financial aid award. This is particularly important for students that are eligible for need-based aid such as Pell Grant, TIP (Tuition Incentive Program), Work Study, and other need-based funds.

Please note that we have received reports that some Ferris students have received emails from “FAFSA-Application.com” encouraging students to start the FAFSA now. FAFSA-Application.com is a website that charges a fee to file the FAFSA. The website and their communications look very official and many students and families fall prey to this “service”.

Students should never pay for financial aid services or advice. If in doubt, students should be directed to contact the Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid for guidance before paying for financial aid related services.  Questions? finaid@ferris.edu or (231) 591-2110.
