About the Program

The Sociology minor enables students to see the ‘big picture’ of human society. Each of us lives out our life within a complex web of social relationship sat many levels, from small groups such as the family and peers to giant organizations that span the globe, such as the United Nations and multinational corporations. Sociology students learn to look at this intricate mosaic of life with a perspective that helps them to understand their places in it, and to cope with a changing world and workplace. The Sociology minor will help prepare you for the world of work and the lifelong changes you will encounter in your careers. Sociologists study all human institutions and levels of social systems and how they interact in the modern world. Sociology helps us understand the motivations and aspirations of those with whom we deal on a daily basis. This helps us function more easily and effectively in the workplace and in the larger society, which is becoming ever more diverse. Employers seek those who have skills dealing with people. Whatever major you are pursuing, a Sociology minor will add a human social dimension with a breadth not available in other disciplines.
