Biography

Nate Garrelts specializes in contemporary American literature, cultural studies, and composition-rhetoric. Early in his career, he edited four books on digital games, including The Meaning and Culture of Grand Theft Auto (2006), which was the first scholarly collection on a single game series. In 2017, he conducted sabbatical research on using AI to study literature--long before the topic was en vogue. Today, he is most interested in American folk literature and the role it plays in shaping and preserving national identity. Prior to coming to Ferris he served as a writing center director, writing program coordinator, and primary investigator on several grants.

Employed at Ferris since 2009
