Herman Boone, the real-life high school football coach famously depicted by acclaimed
actor Denzel Washington in the movie “Remember the Titans,” will speak at Ferris State
University on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. in Williams Auditorium.
The Sept. 10 presentation, is sponsored by the Social Work Association, will focus on issues that are relevant to a university campus, such as diversity.
In the early 1970s, Boone coached football at the newly-formed T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Va. Williams was formed as three schools merged into a new and racially-integrated high school. Amid racial tensions, history made as the story behind the award-winning 2000 film “Remember the Titans” would ultimately capture the public’s attention.
Boone, and his staff, would go on to coach the Titans to a state championship that season.
Retired from coaching, Boone serves as a motivational speaker for audiences on topics related to community engagement, respect and teamwork.
