The Product Design Engineering Technology degree program at Ferris State University offers intensive instruction and practical experience in all facets of product design. Product Design Engineering Technology students are prepared to effectively participate in a design environment, generate conceptual design sketches and drawings, create complex design layouts, perform static and dynamic analysis, create models and prototypes, define complex surfaces and shapes, and understand and integrate manufacturing principles into product designs.
The Bachelor Degree program in product design also emphasizes communications, mathematics and analytical skills.
A product designer begins with a concept, then transforms it into a working design that specifies the size, shape, style, dimensions and materials needed. Because product design engineering skills are needed for the production of millions of industrial and consumer goods, college product design engineering graduates are in demand.
Their knowledge of product design, engineering analysis, manufacturing processes and communication techniques are valued in industries across the United States. Employment opportunities exist across the spectrum of the product design field - wherever products are produced, product designers will be found.
Specific job titles might include product designer, product manager, mechanical designer, project engineer and design engineer.
College students entering the Product Design Engineering Technology degree program must have completed a minimum of 60 transferable hours with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA, including specific pre-admission courses.
If you don't meet these requirements when you apply, you may be accepted as a "non-major." Upon completion of all prerequisites, admission to the Product Design Engineering Technology bachelor degree program will be approved. Ferris State admission counselors should be consulted for an evaluation of transferability.
The Product Design Engineering Technology program at Ferris leads to a bachelor of science degree. Graduation requires a minimum 2.0 GPA overall. Product Design Engineering Technology students must complete all general education requirements as outlined on the general education Web site.

College classes including the Product Design Engineering Technology program, are taught at all levels by professional teachers, not graduate assistants. College students at Ferris State University, including our Product Design Engineering Program students, study in more than 170 different college educational programs - including doctorate degrees, masters degrees, bachelor's degrees and associate degree programs. Seven of the Ferris' Michigan colleges are based in Big Rapids, Michigan - Allied Health Sciences, Arts and Sciences, College of Business, Education and Human Services, Optometry, Pharmacy and Engineering Technology. Ferris' College of Professional and Technological studies, and Kendall College of Art and Design are based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. College courses are also offered at several Michigan College campus sites through the Ferris State University College of Professional and Technological Studies.

The group presentation, by one of our engineering college admissions recruiters, includes information on academic offerings, engineering scholarships, campus housing, student life, and the costs of an engineering degree at Ferris State University. A question and answer period follows the presentation and includes a few surprises! Lunch is provided at one of our well known dining facilities on campus. After lunch, guests may take part in a walking tour of the FSU engineering campus led by one of our exceptional student guides. The walking tour takes approximately 1 hour.
