A: In switching to Twitch.TV for streaming the Osprey Nest Camera any browser is supported in viewing the Live Stream. The most popular browsers to use are Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Edge.

"10sec Still" and "1sec Still" have been configured to work on any browser. Internet Explorer, Mozilla FireFox, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Safari can support these views of the Osprey Nest. However, the "Live Stream" is only viewable within Internet Explorer.

If the Still/Live Images are "cut off" click the "Gear" icon in the upper right hand corner of Internet Explorer select "Zoom" and select "75%.

Osprey Nesting Season 2025

The Osprey Webcam at Ferris State University, which has been in operation since the 2009 breeding season, was the brainchild of the late Dr. Paul Klatt. At that time, with help from many individuals across campus, efforts were made to install a webcam that was focused on a pair of Osprey that had been nesting on a light pole on campus for several years. Since that time, many changes to the camera and its infrastructure have occurred, including, at one point, a change in location as the Osprey nest moved to a new site on campus.

One of the main purposes of the camera is to bring real-time observations of behavior into the classroom to stimulate learning amongst students ranging in age from elementary school to college. Behaviors such as courtship, nest building, egg laying, incubation, and parental care can all be observed and discussed. Because of its presence on the internet, the same images are available to all members of the general public, and based on feedback from visitors to the website, we know that many schools and individuals regularly visit, and learn from, the Osprey Webcam.

The Osprey Webcam project is supported primarily through donations. Funds that are donated to the project directly meet the expenses associated with maintenance and upgrades of the camera and all associated hardware and software.
