Summer Internships: Savanna Yuncker

Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.

Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet:

She is: a senior at Ferris with a major in Business Administration and a minor in Finance. “the university has done a phenomenal job enhancing my professional development and financial knowledge.”

Savanna’s Internship/Making A Difference: “I am currently interning at Huntington Private Bank in Traverse City. Through my internship, I have learned how the private bank team works together to serve their high-net-worth clients best.

While at Huntington, I have focused on developing a skill set that will help me launch my career in wealth management once I have graduated. My internship focused on supporting the portfolio management function in private banking, learning about financial markets and how to manage client portfolios best.

Future Plans: “I hope to continue my career development with Huntington Private Bank after graduation. I plan to be conferred as a certified financial Planner (CFP) within five years to stand out against others in the industry and better serve my future clients.”

Previous Experience: “I had a work opportunity for Summer 2022 as an accountant for a small company. It provided me with great work experience to present more opportunities as I searched further into my career in finance.”

Advice for Other Students Regarding Internships: ‘Fully dedicate yourself to your course work at college to learn the basics that you will need for your future career. At the end of the day, college is an investment for your future. If you apply yourself and stand out amongst your peers, you get great opportunities to catapult your development and future success.”
