LAKE SUPERIOR STATE EDGES FSU WITH TWO SECOND-PERIOD SCORES
Lake Superior State's Troy Schwab scored with just 31 seconds remaining in the second period to snap a 1-1 tie and send the Ferris State men's ice hockey team to a 3-2 loss Friday (Oct. 31) night in Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) action at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.
Lake Superior State overcame a 1-0 first-period deficit as the Bulldogs' Justin Lewandowski (Naperville, Ill.) tallied the game's first goal at the 10:58 mark. Lewandowski netted his fourth of the season right in front of the LSSU goal with assists going to senior left Brendan Connolly (Canmore, Alberta) and junior center Aaron Lewicki (Livonia). | Aaron Lewicki and the Bulldogs dropped a narrow 2-1 CCHA decision to Lake Superior State in Friday's series opener. Ferris State maintained its one-goal advantage until 11:19 into the second period when Matt Cowie scored for the Lakers on a five-on-three power-play opportunity. LSSU then would produce the game winner with 31 ticks remaining on the clock in the second period on Schwab's lamplighter.
Despite the loss, Ferris State recorded a 34-to-31 shots on goal lead for the game and held a 16-7 third-period advantage. The Lakers converted one-of-nine power plays and the Bulldogs were successful on one-of-11 opportunities.
Sophomore goaltender Pat Nagle (Bloomfield) made 29 stops for Ferris State in the loss while Brian Mahoney-Wilson totaled 33 saves for the Lakers and was the game's second star behind first star Troy Schwab.
Ferris fell to 2-3-2 overall and 1-1-0-0 in the CCHA this season as a result of the setback.
