FERRIS STATE HOCKEY RECEIVES ATTENTION IN NATIONAL POLLS
Bulldogs Pick Up Votes In All Three National College Hockey Polls This Week
A weekend sweep of Ohio State has helped the 2007-08 Ferris State University men's ice hockey team achieve national attention in the three national polls which rank the NCAA Division I men's ice hockey teams.
This week's polls represent the first time this season in which the Bulldogs have garnered national recognition.
Ferris State, which improved to 4-3-1 overall and is presently fifth in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) with a 3-1-0 league mark, is listed as others receiving votes in both the U.S. College Hockey Online/College Sports Television (CSTV) and the 13th annual USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls. Ferris is also listed as a "Blubble-licious" team along with four others by Inside College Hockey.com.
The Bulldogs, under 16th-year head coach Bob Daniels, swept Ohio State last weekend (Nov. 2 & 4) in a two-game CCHA series at OSU's Value City Arena in Columbus, Ohio. Ferris State registered its second straight shutout with a 4-0 victory over the Buckeyes in last Friday's (Nov. 2) series opener and then registered a 4-2 triumph in Sunday's (Nov. 4) series finale. Ferris' current three-game winning streak began with a 3-0 decision over then nationally 12th-ranked Notre Dame (Oct. 27) at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.
| Sophomore forward Blair Riley and the Bulldogs are listed in all three national polls this week for the first time this season.
Ferris State picked up 17 votes in this week's (Nov. 5) U.S. College Hockey Online/CSTV Networks poll. The national poll is compiled by U.S. College Hockey Online, and consists of 50 voters, which includes 28 coaches from the Division I conferences, 22 beat writers and sports professionals from across the country. The poll is published weekly by the Associated Press.
The 13th annual USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll has the Bulldogs with six votes in this week's (Nov. 5) balloting. The national poll is conducted weekly in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA). The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey Magazine.
The Inside College Hockey.com poll is compiled by the editors and staff of the on-line publication.
Ferris State returns to the ice this weekend (Nov. 9-10) with a two-game CCHA home series versus the Bowling Green State Falcons in Big Rapids, Mich. Opening faceoff for this Friday's (Nov. 9) game is 7:05 p.m. (EST) while Saturday's (Nov. 10) contest will start at 5:05 p.m. (EST). Tickets for both games and the remaining 2007-08 regular-season contests is available by contacting the FSU Athletics Ticket Office at (231) 591-2888.
