The American Hockey League Welcomes Another Former Ferris State Skater
Derrick McIver, a former Ferris State University men's ice hockey player, was recently called up to the San Antonio (Texas) Rampage of the American Hockey League (AHL).

McIver, who played at Ferris State from 2000-04, has skated in four games for the Rampage as of March 5 but hasn't recorded a point. He has been assessed six minutes in penalties and has compiled a minus two efficiency rating.
The 6-1, 202-pound McIver made his AHL debut Feb. 25 in the Rampage's home contest versus West Division foe the Iowa Stars, which also has a Ferris State hockey alumnus on its current roster in Greg Rallo. McIver signed a professional tryout offer with San Antonio on Feb. 25.
Prior to San Antonio, McIver registered a career-high 45 points on 18 goals with 27 assists in 53 games this season for the Central Hockey League's (CHL) Corpus Christi (Texas) Rayz. His 18 lamplighters was the third highest on the squad prior to his call up while his 45 points currently ranks fourth best among the Rayz' scoring leaders.
In the 2005-06 season, McIver accumulated 43 points with 23 goals and 20 assists in 64 contests. The Thunder Bay, Ontario product tallied 25 goals and had 19 assists for a 44-points total in 60 2004-05 encounters during his rookie campaign. McIver inked a contract with the Corpus Christi on the day before the 2004-05 campaign started and didn't miss a game in his three seasons with the club.

McIver, who was a 2004-05 CHL Rookie of the Year Finalist, had helped lead the Rayz to the second best record in the Southern Conference this season. In his three seasons at Corpus Christi, McIver has compiled 132 career points with 66 goals and assists apiece in 177 games.
At Ferris State, McIver posted 69 career points on 31 goals and 38 helpers in 144 contests. The 2003-04 Bulldog captain was a three-time (2001-04) recipient of the team's Scholar-Athlete Award and was named FSU's 2000-01 Rookie of the Year. He also was a co-honoree of Ferris' Blueline Competitive Award for the 2001-02 campaign.
McIver was a member and an assistant captain of Ferris State's 2002-03 Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Regular-Season Championship team which went on to register a school-record 31-10-1 overall mark and also earned the program's first-ever NCAA Division I Championship Tournament berth.
