FSU'S MATT CASE HONORED AS CCHA'S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Defenseman Helps Bulldogs To A Weekend League Series Sweep
Freshman defenseman Matt Case (Plymouth, Minn.) of the 2006-07 Ferris State University men's ice hockey team has been selected as this week's Central Collegiate Hockey Association's (CCHA) Rookie of the Week as released today (Feb. 5) by the league office.
|Matt Case picked up CCHA Rookie of the Week honors as a result of his two-goal effort in last Friday's win over Ohio State, which included the game-winning lamplighter.
Case registered a career-best two goals in last Friday's (Feb. 2) 4-2 league victory over Ohio State, including the game winner in the second period. He also tallied a second-period power-play lamplighter and was chosen as the game's first star. He blocked four Ohio State shots in Saturday's (Feb. 3) 6-2 win and helped the Bulldogs kill off 10 of the opposition's 12 power-play chances, including three Buckeye five-on-three man-advantage chances.
In 20 games to date this season, Case has compiled seven points with three goals and four assists. The 6-0, 190-pound defender currently ranks fifth among Ferris State defensemen in scoring. Three of the four contests which Case has recorded a point in this campaign have been multiple-point performances, which includes two points (0-2=2) at Northern Michigan (Jan. 5) and (1-1=2) at Wayne State (Jan. 23).
Ferris State, which is presently 9-18-3 overall and 6-14-2 in the CCHA this season, will skate against the nationally-ranked Michigan State University Spartans this Friday (Feb. 9) in its only action on the ice this week. Starting time for the CCHA contest is slated for 7:35 p.m. (EST) at MSU's Munn Ice Arena in East Lansing, Mich., and the game will be televised live on FSN Detroit.
