Bulldogs Picked Ninth In Coaches Poll; Seventh In Media Poll

The 2006-07 Ferris State University men's ice hockey team has been picked to finish ninth in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Coaches Preseason Poll and seventh in the CCHA Media Poll, which were released Wednesday (Sept. 27) during the CCHA's annual media day at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich.

The Bulldogs totaled a ninth-place 55 points in the coaches poll and were four points behind eighth-place Northern Michigan's 59-points total. Michigan State, which claimed its 11th CCHA Tournament championship title in school history last season, was picked first in the coaches poll. Michigan was selected as the favorite in the media poll as the Wolverines finished one point ahead of second-place Michigan State although the Spartans received more first-place votes (38) than UM (26). Four CCHA coaches chose the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks to defend their 2005-06 CCHA regular-season title as did 13 media members.

Ferris State, under 15th-year head coach Bob Daniels, garnered 437 points in the media poll to place seventh as the Bulldogs had 34 more points than eighth-place Notre Dame (403 pts.). A total of 77 media members ranked the 12 CCHA teams in projected order of finish for the regular season. Points were awarded on a 12-11-10,9, etc., basis. League coaches ranked the CCHA teams, excluding their own school, in the order they predicted the regular season will end. Points in the coaches poll were tallied on a 11-10-9, etc., basis.

Ferris was tabbed to place 10th in by the coaches (28 points) and 12th by the media (112 points) in the 2005-06 CCHA Preseason Polls.

The Bulldogs welcome back 20 letterwinners from the 2005-06 team, which registered a 17-15-8 overall record while placing tied for sixth in the CCHA at 10-11-7 (27 points). FSU's 17 victories were the most single-season wins since the 2002-03 campaign and the last year's season victory total were the ninth most in Bulldog history.
