GLIAC TOURNEY MATCHUPS SET FOR FERRIS BASKETBALL TEAMS
Ferris State Teams To Hit Road For Opening Round Of League Event
The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament quarterfinal-round matchups have been set for the Ferris State University men's and women's basketball teams.
Both the Bulldog men's and women's squads will be on the road for the first round of the annual tournament at different sites on Tuesday, March 3.
The FSU women will visit Northwood for a quarterfinal-round contest in NU's Bennett Sports Center at Midland, Mich. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. (EST).
Meanwhile, the Ferris men's team will travel to archrival Grand Valley State for its quarterfinal game inside the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena at Allendale, Mich., with tipoff set for 8 p.m. (EST) after the GVSU-Ashland women's game.
Tickets for both games will be sold at the door prior to game time.
The quarterfinal-round winners in both the men's and women's tournaments will advance to the GLIAC Tournament semifinals and finals set for Friday and Saturday, March 6-7, at the site of the highest remaining seed in each field.
The winner of both the men's and women's GLIAC Tournaments receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament slated to be held March 13-16 (women) and March 14-17 (men) at locations yet to be determined.
The Bulldog men are 7-11 all-time in nine previous tournament appearances and advanced to the GLIAC Tournament Championship game in 2005-06 before dropping an 80-58 decision in the title contest (3/3/06) at Grand Valley State. Ferris captured the 1997-98 league tourney title and will be making its fourth appearance in the last five years after missing the field a season ago.
Ferris has posted a 7-10 overall record in 11 previous league women's basketball tournament appearances and will be making its 10th consecutive appearance. FSU advanced to the tournament semifinals a year ago before falling to Ashland (3/7/08) by a 56-45 count at Houghton, Mich.
The Bulldog men's basketball team concluded the regular-season with a 14-13 overall record and is the league's fifth overall seed following a 12-10 league regular-season performance.
The women's team enters postseason play with a 12-14 overall mark and is the sixth seed in the women's tournament after a 10-12 conference regular-season mark.
