FERRIS BASKETBALL TEAMS HONOR SENIOR STUDENT-ATHLETES
Six Seniors Honored During Saturday's Regular-Season Home Finales At Wink Arena
The Ferris State University men's and women's basketball squads honored six senior student-athletes between games this past Saturday (Feb. 21) as part of the school's annual "Senior Day" festivities held in conjunction with FSU's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) doubleheader against Lake Superior State at Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.

The six seniors included four women's basketball players in Ashley Fleming (Posen/Rogers City), Jenna Guay (Escanaba), Caitlin Hutchison (Riverview) and Teghan Thelen (Pewamo/Westphalia) in addition to two men's basketball seniors in Mark Gildersleeve (Byron Center) and Jason Holder (Saginaw/Arthur Hill). All six played in their final regular-season home contests at Wink Arena on Saturday.
The spotlight was shown on the honorees as they walked to center court along with their respective parents and family members in attendance. The six were greeted by FSU head coaches Tracey Dorow and Bill Sall and presented with both balloons and flowers as part of the Senior Day ceremony.
The Bulldog women's squad, which is presently 11-13 overall and 9-11 in league play, posted its fifth consecutive win of the season with a 69-66 triumph over the Lakers while the men's squad narrowly fell to GLIAC North Division Champion LSSU by a 76-69 count despite playing without the league's leading scorer in sophomore forward/center Justin Keenan. The men's team currently owns a 13-12 overall mark and is 11-9 in the GLIAC.
FSU wraps up regular-season play with a pair of league road contests this week. Ferris first visits Northwood on Thursday, Feb. 26, for a twinbill with the women's game starting at 6 p.m. (EST) followed by the men's contest at 8 p.m. (EST) in Midland, Mich. The Bulldogs then travel to Wayne State for their final regular-season games on Saturday, Feb. 28, with tipoff times set for 1 p.m. (women) and 3 p.m. (men) in Detroit, Mich.
The Bulldog men are currently fifth in the GLIAC's overall standings while the women sit sixth entering the week. The top eight teams at the end of the regular-season will advance to the GLIAC Tournament and the top four teams will host quarterfinal-round action on Tuesday, March 3. The official tournament pairings will be announced by the league office following the conclusion of regular-season play.

One of the squad’s veterans, she’s played in 89 career contests during her Bulldog basketball career. In her career, she’s tallied 482 points and 278 rebounds. This season, she ranks as the squad’s second-leading scorer and is the team’s top rebounder. Additionally, she’s among the school’s all-time leaders with 47 career blocked shots and ranks in the top 10 for career field goal percentage at FSU.
This four-year letterwinner has played in 109 career contests and has started 46 games as a Bulldog player. A native of Escanaba, she’s compiled 608 points and 417 rebounds in her collegiate career. Two years ago, she played an instrumental role as the Bulldogs advanced to the NCAA Division II Sweet Sixteen. Currently, she ranks among the top 10 players in school history in field goal percentage. Twice in her career, she’s attained GLIAC Player of the Week honors.
A Riverview native, this senior has totaled 494 points and grabbed 225 rebounds at FSU. Saturday, she played in her 85th career contest and made her 46th start with the Bulldogs. Recently, she was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV First Team and is a three-time GLIAC All-Academic Team selection. Presently, she is the team’s third-leading scorer this season and also among the school’s career leaders in field goal percentage.
This standout guard is the school leader in career free throw percentage and among the top performers all-time in three-point field goals and three-point percentage. To date, she’s scored 882 points in a Bulldog uniform, pulled down 380 rebounds and sank 147 three-pointers. The two-time GLIAC All-Academic Team selection is the squad’s leading scorer this year and was a preseason All-GLIAC honoree.
This senior forward is a four-year letterwinner and was a member of FSU’s most recent NCAA Division II Tournament Team as a freshman. He made his 68th career appearance in a Bulldog uniform on Saturday. The three-time GLIAC All-Academic Team pick earned the team’s Sixth Player Award for his contributions off the bench a year ago and has also been honored as a team Coaches Award recipient during his Bulldog career for his leadership and dedication.
This Bulldog senior forward has scored 373 points and grabbed 246 rebounds while appearing in 82 career outings in his FSU career. The three-year letterwinner has made 31 career starts and has played an important role as one of the team’s top rebounders over the last three seasons. He’s also shot nearly 54 percent from the floor and blocked 38 shots in his Bulldog career.
