The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament quarterfinal-round matchups have been set for the Ferris State University men's and women's basketball teams.
The Bulldog women will host Lake Superior State in the quarterfinal round Tuesday, Feb. 27, in FSU's Jim Wink Arena at Big Rapids, Mich. Tipoff will be at 7 p.m. (EST). Tickets for the quarterfinal round will be sold at the door beginning one hour prior to game time. Tickets are $5 for adult general admission and $2 for students with identification. Children five years of age and younger will be admitted free of charge.
The Bulldog men's basketball team must travel to archrival Grand Valley State for Tuesday's (Feb. 27) quarterfinal with tipoff set for 8 p.m. (EST) inside GVSU's Fieldhouse Arena at Allendale, Mich. The Lakers defeated the Bulldogs in Saturday's (Feb. 24) regular-season finale 75-68 at Jim Wink Arena.
The quarterfinal-round winners will advance to the GLIAC Tournament semifinals and finals set for Friday and Saturday, March 2-3, at the site of the highest remaining seed.
The winner of both the men's and women's GLIAC Tournaments receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Tournament slated to be held March 9-12 (women) and March 10-13 (men) at locations yet to be determined.
The Bulldog men, who defeated Northern Michigan 73-68 in the quarterfinal round (2/28/06) at Wink Arena last campaign, are 7-10 all-time in eight previous tournament appearances and advanced to the GLIAC Tournament Championship game last season before dropping an 80-58 decision in the title contest (3/3/06) at Grand Valley State. Ferris captured the 1997-98 league tourney title and will be making its fourth consecutive appearance in the tournament.
Ferris has posted a 5-8 overall record in eight previous league women's basketball tournament appearances. FSU, which will be making its eighth-straight women's berth in the GLIAC Tournament, fell last year to Grand Valley State 79-47 in the GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals (2/28/06) at Allendale. The Bulldogs defeated defending NCAA-II National Champion GVSU 64-62 in this past Saturday's regular-season finale.
The Bulldog men's basketball team concluded the regular-season with a 10-17 overall record and finished tied with both Saginaw Valley State and Michigan Tech in the divisional standings. Based on the GLIAC's tiebreaker formula, the Bulldogs received the final postseason bid over SVSU.
The women's team enters postseason play with a 20-7 overall mark and placed second in the GLIAC North Division with a 13-5 conference regular-season record.
Additional information regarding postseason media coverage plans will be made available Monday.
