Important Information for Pre-Nursing Students

Changes in the Accelerated 2nd Degree Program

What are the changes?

Effective as of the 2016 admission cycle the accelerated nursing program will be suspended.  The School of Nursing will be working on curriculum changes to all BSN programs. No definite timeline has been set for re-opening this program.

  1. Any student with another baccalaureate degree who qualifies for the nursing program is eligible for the traditional BSN program. The professional sequence of classes for the traditional BSN program is six consecutive semesters, and students can complete in two years.
  2. We will admit a traditional track of students summer of 2016 with the intention of reducing the wait for admission. Further, in the 2016 admission cycle we will offer 25% of our seats as competitive admission. Details on the competitive admission will be on our website soon.

Who is affected by these changes?

  1. All students who are admitted as pre-nursing students and expect to apply for the accelerated 2nd degree nursing program after the 2015 application cycle.

It is our pleasure to welcome you to our website and to tell you about the exciting innovations and accomplishments of this exceptional academic unit within the College of Health Professions at Ferris State University.  These are exciting and challenging times for the nursing profession and the FSU School of Nursing is dedicated to the preparation of nurses at both the undergraduate (BSN) and graduate (MSN) levels who can be leaders of change for the profession and as a result help to shape contemporary health care delivery.

The nursing programs at Ferris State University have historically provided career mobility options for students who aspire to an initial career in nursing as well as for nurses who are seeking advanced degrees at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  For those who are entering the nursing profession, we offer a pre-licensure BSN program.  This innovative curriculum offers a six semester professional sequence track for traditional nursing students. Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at Ferris are eligible to write the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX-RN) to become a Registered Nurse (RN).

For Registered Nurses who were originally prepared at the associate degree or diploma level, the RN to BSN or RN to MSN completion programs continue to provide a consumer friendly upper division program that is now offered fully online.

The graduate (MSN) program in nursing is a 100% online program designed to provide a learner centered curriculum that prepares nurses with the knowledge and skills needed for a variety of advanced specialty roles.  The MSN program offers three concentrations in areas of high demand for specialty leadership roles:  nursing administration, nursing informatics and nursing education.  All nursing programs are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Please view the specific program you are interested in on the menu to the left.
