Universal Mind Visits Graphic Design at Ferris State

May 9, 2016

This semester, the Graphic Design program at Ferris State was fortunate enough to get a visit from Grand Rapids based Digital Agency, Universal Mind.

Universal Mind is an agency of inventors, designers, and strategists that work to create digital experiences that make an impact on people’s work and life. They have built technologies for companies such as Ben and Jerry’s, Sony Music, T-Mobile, and FedEx.

Universal Mind was able to talk to the junior and senior class about some of the new projects they are currently working on. They walked students through their design process and explained to them what they are looking for in recent grads.

“The presentation really put into perspective how the things we learn in the Graphic Design program at Ferris translate into the real world. The “user-centered” approach Universal Mind uses towards their design makes so much sense,”  Junior Bailey Darwin states. “It was proof that the things I am learning at Ferris will be beneficial for me in the real world.”

The senior class was then able to present their senior projects to Universal Mind. After their presentations they were given feedback and networked with design professionals.

“We were excited to present to renowned professionals and to receive feedback that we could apply to our portfolios. It was helpful to learn from them in addition to the faculty,” explains David Meldrum.
