Kevin Hatheway, Music Industry Management Senior

MIM Student Interns at Conan

The best part of this internship is being able to experience how music works in the television world.

Kevin Hatheway, a senior Music Industry Management student in the College of Business, is spending his fall semester as an intern at the popular CONAN show.

“I am currently interning at the TBS late-night show CONAN. The show films at Warner Bros Studios in Burbank, CA. Needless to say, this is a very different environment than Big Rapids. There are about 30 interns for the fall semester that are here to assist the various departments of the show that include control room, digital, casting, production, talent, and quite a bit more (they have a full listing on their website).

“I was fortunate enough to be offered an internship with the music department. Most of my work takes place in the green room. This is where the guests come before their interviews or performances. My job is to provide the musical guest with anything they need throughout the day. Rehearsal is in the morning, then there is a pretty large break before taping so I usually get quite a few requests every day. I also do various tasks for my supervisors in the music department whenever they need me.

“The best part of this internship is being able to experience how music works in the television world. I gained a lot of experience at music venues over the summer and I get the unique opportunity to see the comparisons of how things work here. It is really cool to see how much goes into a one song performance. My favorite part of the day is the morning rehearsal when I’m able to watch the performance a few times and also how they shoot it.

“This is a very competitive position to get and I am very grateful to have received it. I am happy to represent Ferris State University out here in Los Angeles!”
