Professional activities and areas of interest
Derek recently accepted the position of PTM Director/FSU Racquet and Fitness Center Manager in January 2009, where he was a 1994 graduate of the PTM program. He is the PTM advisor and teaches all PTM courses; PTM Orientation, Beginning and Advanced Teaching Techniques, Tournament Administration, and USPTA certification. In addition, Derek is responsible for overall management of the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center. Prior to joining Ferris, Derek was a speaker on training tennis players for over 12 years. During his 23 years as a coach and trainer, he has worked with dozens of tennis academies, college teams, state through ITF world ranked juniors, the USTA Player Development Program and professional players. Derek served as a National Zonals and National Championships coach for the 12's, 16's and 18's as well as the Mills/Redgrave coach 2001, 2004 and 2005. From the years 1999-2006, he represented Georgia as a coach for their undefeated Junior Davis/Fed Cup team and served as the Georgia USTA Competition Training Center coordinator and head coach. In 1999, he co-authored "Explosive Power Training for Tennis".
