Student Spotlight: Amber Hunter
This week's Student Spotlight feature is with Amber Hunter, a senior in the PR program.
Where are you from?
I'm from Port Huron, MI.
Why did you choose PR as a career path?
I started out in graphics design and got an associates degree. I then decided that PR was better suited for me and what I love: a combination of design, writing, event planning, social media and marketing.
What internships or experience have you had so far?
This past summer, I was the Corporate Communications Intern at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. I produced newsletter articles, press releases and web pressroom stories, and monitored and updated social media sites. I also co-managed an employee appreciation event including creation of the media. For the past two summers, I interned at Port Huron Hospital as a PR/Marketing Intern where I developed PR tactics, fact sheets, press releases, posters, and flyers. I also assisted in the development of the Facebook and Twitter accounts. I've also interned at the Community Action Agency, a non-profit organization, and United Way in Port Huron.
What do you want to do with your career?
I would like to work in health care or at a PR agency. I would like to be able to use my graphic design background in whatever job that I work in. I want to blend the two. My dream job would be to work in an organization where I can help people.
Other than Ferris State PR, are you involved in any other activities?
I'm a Resident Advisor in Taggart Hall. I am also the Research Coordinator in the Operations group of PRSSA.
