Sports Marketing Senior Interns with Fox Sports Detroit

A huge opportunity arose for Sports Marketing major, Clayton Nash, when he was offered an intern position with Fox Sports Detroit (FS Detroit) for the summer of 2011.

FS Detroit, located in Southfield, is only 30 minutes from Nash’s hometown in Harrison Township, making it an even greater opportunity for him to intern there. Nash said the location of FS Detroit made it extremely convenient, allowing him to live at home and commute.

“It was stressful dealing with traffic to and from work every day, but that’s life. I feel that you have do it to get yourself up in the ranks. The location definitely helped make my decision but either way, you do not pass up an opportunity like the one I had,” Nash said.

Nash worked with a team of Account Executives as an Advertising Sales Intern, doing marketing promotions and selling advertisement space during Detroit games, as well as online. This allowed him to attend and enjoy Detroit games with his co-workers and clients, while learning about the business at the same time. Nash said his persistence was key to landing his internship.

“My advice to students looking for an internship is to research early and often, and network as much as you can. Don’t be afraid to call someone directly. Be persistent with calling and e-mailing Most importantly, when you get your internship, be willing to go the extra mile, help in any way you can, and be prepared for anything,” Nash said.

Nash is an active member of Ferris’ chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA), as well as the president of his fraternity, Pi Lambda Phi. Nash proceeds with his hard work as he approaches spring commencement, where he will graduate with a Bachelors degree in Sports Marketing.
