Professional activities and areas of interest
Professor Vermeer's teaching philosophy is based on the premise that "knowledge has special value if it can be applied." Critical thinking and problem solving skills are continually developed in all of Professor Vermeer's courses, supporting his belief that "learning" is an evolving process that becomes a lifetime endeavor. He attempts to integrate a strong understanding of the theoretical with a practical ability to apply the law to real world situations. Professor Vermeer has been with Ferris State University since 1985, teaching Business Law and Legal Studies courses. He had an extensive background in both criminal and commercial law before joining the Ferris faculty. He is also one of the faculty advisors for the FSU Paralegal Association.
