Professional activities and areas of interest
Dr. Cooper has been teaching statistics and related courses in the College of Business for over twenty years. He believes statistics is an intriguing field in part because it involves the study and appreciation of variation - the spice and challenge of life. His teaching practice is learner centered - reflecting principles and methods derived from traditional teaching practices, emergent adult learning theory, and continuous quality improvement. His current research interests include integrated application of qualitative and quantitative research methods for systems improvement, statistical applications for process improvement, applications of general log-linear models, and outlier detection in non-symmetric data sets. His current consulting is focused on process improvement for health care providers. This work includes research support, workshops, and software development.
