Computer Information Technology
The CIT curriculum provides students with a broad understanding of core business functions, competency in computer repair & maintenance, networking administration, server administration, and in information security. Students have the opportunity to sit for several certifications during throughout their coursework. These include, but are not limited to, CompTIA's A+, Network+, Linux+, Security+; Microsoft's MCITP:Server Administration or MCTS, and Novell's CNA. To graduate from the program there are specific certification requirements as mentioned below in the graduation requirement section.
Applicants are expected to meet 3 of the 4 criteria listed below in order to be placed directly into a College of Business bachelor/associate degree program. Any mitigating circumstances will be considered on an individual basis by the College of Business Dean's Office.
- High school GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale)
- English ACT of 16 or higher or SAT of 370 or higher
- Math ACT of 19 or higher or SAT of 460 or higher
- Reading ACT of 19 or higher
Applicants not meeting the above criteria for direct admissions into a specific COB program, but still meeting Ferris State University admissions criteria, will be placed into the College of Business in the Pre-Business program until they meet the admission criteria for the program into which they desire entrance. The Computer Information Technology program at Ferris leads to a Bachelor of Science degree.
GPA and Course Requirements
Students must meet the following GPA requirements
- a minimum 2.0 GPA CUMMULATIVE GPA in all FSU courses
- a 2.0 GPA in Business Core
- and a 2.5 in the CIT Major courses.
Students must complete all general education requirements as outlined on the General Education website.
In order to graduate from the CIT program, a student must also pass three industry certifications. One is required, and the other two a student has several choices.
Required: CompTIA A+ certification
and two of the following industry certifications:
Novell - CNA (Certified NetWare Administrator)
Cisco - CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate)
Other industry certifications will be considered
