Marketing Research Students get Hands-On Experience in the Big Rapids Community

College of Business marketing students at Ferris State University have recently conducted a research project for their client—Big Rapids Community Library (BRCL)—in the Spring semester of 2016.

This survey is being used to determine what Big Rapid area residents perceptions are of the services provided by the BRCL and their attitudes toward future development opportunities.

“This survey is part of a problem-based learning project in Marketing Research (MKTG 425) at Ferris,” said Henry Ho, D.B.A., Associate Professor of Marketing, “The course requires student to work in groups to design and develop the questionnaire for the survey, collect the data followed by data analysis, write a report, and give an oral presentation for their client.”

As mentioned by Dr. Ho, some of the benefits of completing this research project includes giving marketing students the opportunity to gain professional skills, a talent for teamwork, and the confidence to dive right into the challenge. It is the real-world experience, problem-solving skills, and ability to work collaboratively that set Ferris graduates apart from their peers.

The students presented to BRCL representatives on May 2 and the written report will be delivered to their client in June 2016.
