Ferris State University Students Working 2017 Aspen ESPN X Games

January 30, 2017

Amy Dorey and Karyn Kiio, faculty members with the Hospitality Management program, departed on Tuesday morning to take a team of 13 students from six different programs on campus (Hospitality, Public Relations, Music Industry Management, Communications, Marketing and TV & Digital Media Production) on a five-day trip to Aspen, Colorado, for the ESPN Winter X Games. This is the second year that Ferris State University has participated in this very unique educational experience.  All of the positions the students will be working in have direct guest contact and high visibility so students were required to attend several trainings and meetings leading up to this event in preparation to be exceptional ambassadors for the school.  This year positions have branched into three areas of operations including guest services, festival operations, and VIP suites.  This four-day “Learning in Action” opportunity gives students an unparalleled experience working with communication systems, crowd control and interaction with guests and athletes participating at the event.

“If I were offered this opportunity again I would take it in a heartbeat,” said Amber Dewitt, a now alumnus of the Hospitality program who was able to attend during the 2016 X Games in Aspen. “It was truly an experience of a lifetime, and it’s an opportunity I will never forget that Ferris was able to give me.”

Ferris State University will be the only university promoted at this international event and will receive recognition featured on the JumboTrons and in daily PA reads.  To watch live feed and to learn more about ESPN X Games follow this link.
