June 2, 2016
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) recently published “Careers Beyond the Court” profiles for Tennis industry professionals. Three of these professionals—Anne Smudz, Newlyn Wing, and David Ramos—are College of Business alumni.
Anne Smudz is an alumna of the Professional Tennis Management (PTM) class of 2014. She is now the Director of Junior Tennis at Cheval Athletic Club in Tampa, FL.
Newlyn Wing is also a ‘14 PTM graduate. He is currently the Coordinator of USTA High School Tennis, Tennis on Campus, and TSRs in Orlando, FL.
David Ramos is the Former Ferris State University Tennis Coach and an alumnus of the College of Business (International Business, ‘04). Today, Ramos is the Manager of Coaching Education and Performance at the USTA National Training Center in Boca Raton, FL.
The profiles consist of a video showcasing the career of each professional and a 2–3 page interview. Each career is just one example of the variety of employment options within the Tennis industry.
In her career profile, Anne Smudz said this about her decision to study PTM at Ferris: “When I was looking for collegiate careers, I saw a Professional Tennis Management program. It’s kind of like a Sports Science degree mixed with a Marketing degree. I always wanted to go into marketing. And so, I thought, if there’s some way I could mix marketing and sports – tennis in particular – that would be great!”
