The Associates Degree in Building Construction through Ferris prepares students for entry-level positions within the the building construction trade, including work on commercial and residential structures.
The program includes courses relevant to building construction technology, including emphasis in estimating, field layout, and hands-on laboratories, toward fulfillment of your Building Construction AAS Degree.
Graduates of the Building Construction Associates Degree Program may choose employment opportunities with construction companies following graduation, or to pursue a Bachelors of Science Degree in the ACCE-accredited Construction Management program at Ferris.
Some of the most skilled personnel on the building construction site are building construction technicians. Technicians work as part of a construction team and following graduation from a Building Construction Degree program at Ferris, know how to:
- Lay out a building
- Prepare construction project estimates
- Read building blueprints
- Develop operation schedules for building construction projects
- Formulate material orders for building projects
- Coordinate with building subcontractors
Building Construction Technology graduates have the necessary skills to serve as an integral part of a construction team.
Graduates of the building construction associates degree program are on track to find work with a general contractor or work in related fields such as material sales, insurance adjusting, building inspection, and equipment sales and rental. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, last year building construction technicians averaged about $54,970 annually.
Admission to the College of Technology is open to high school graduates who demonstrate academic preparedness, maturity and seriousness of purpose with backgrounds appropriate to their chosen program of studies. Among first-time students in our technical programs, the average high school GPA is 2.8, and the average ACT composite score is 20.
Students entering the Building Construction Technology program must have a high school diploma with a 'C' average or better and be prepared to enroll in all required courses including mathematics and English. An ACT math subscore of 19 or better also is required. Fully prepared students enter the program in the fall semester. Students not fully prepared who complete the preparatory courses during the fall semester may enter the program sequence in the winter semester, following a modified course sequence.
An Associates Degree through the Building Construction Technology program at Ferris leads to an associate in applied science degree. Graduation requires a minimum 2.0 GPA in core classes, in the major and overall. Students must complete all general education requirements as outlined on the General Education website.

More About the Building Construction Associates Degree Program at Ferris State: Building Construction Associates Degree courses including our Bachelors Degree in Construction Management, are taught at all levels by professional teachers, not graduate assistants. College students at Ferris State University, including our Building Construction Associates Degree students, are able to extend their studies in more than 170 different college educational programs – beyond Ferris State’s Michigan Building Construction Associates Degree Program.

The group presentation, by one of our admissions recruiters, includes information on academic offerings, scholarships, housing, student life, and costs. A question and answer period follows the presentation and includes a few surprises! Lunch is provided at one of our well known dining facilities on campus. After lunch, guests may take part in a walking tour of campus led by one of our exceptional student guides. The walking tour takes approximately one hour.
