Theatre Classes Offered

Introduction to Theatre (THTR 215)

An appreciation of the theatre arts: the role of the audience; play structure and genres; theatre artists; and the fundamentals of play production. The students will read representative plays, view selected films,and attend live theatre. This course meets General Education requirements: Cultural Enrichment. Typically offered Fall and Spring semesters.

Beginning Technical Theatre (THTR 219)

This course will explore the contextual and historical areas of theatrical design and technical production. Areas include scenic design, costume design and lighting design and stage management. The course will also provide practical experience in one of the areas of the student's choice. This course meets General Education requirements: Cultural Enrichment. Typically offered Fall and Spring semesters.

Acting (THTR 222)

The basic physical and vocal skills required in acting on the stage are explored and developed through exercises, improvisation and scenes. Includes acting theory, stage acting terminology, script and role analysis. This course meets General Education requirements: Cultural Enrichment. Typically offered Fall semester only.

Theatre Practicum (THTR 224)

Laboratory course in dramatic production. Students may receive credit in several areas of play production. Each credit hour requires a minimum of 45 hours of time during rehearsals and performances as an assistant director or technical theatre time. This course meets General Education requirements: Cultural Enrichment. Typically offered Fall and Spring semesters.

Honors Introduction to Theatre (THTH 215)

An appreciation of the theatre arts: the role of the audience; play structure and genres; theatre artists; and the fundamentals of play production. The students will read representative plays, view selected filmed plays and films, and attend live theatre. This course meets the learning outcomes expected by the Honors Program. This course meets General Education requirements: Cultural Enrichment. Prerequisites: Honors Program. Typically offered Spring semester only.
