Depression is the number one emotional problem facing students on campuses nationally and locally. Our university is launching a campaign to raise awareness of the symptoms of depression and warning signs of suicide. This effort is directed toward our students, staff, faculty and you as parents and family of our students.
Most universities are making this same effort to increase depression awareness, to inform all parties of coping and helping resources, with goal of treatment and saving lives.
You can help by reviewing this information, having discussions with your student about depression, being observant of the signs and symptoms in your own college student, and finally, knowing about our helping resources on campus.
We are working hard to get the word out to your student too. There will be lectures and discussions on this topic in and out of the classroom, brochures and posters, lists of helping resources posted on campus, notes on students' I-mail with the goal of educating everyone.
The Counseling Center, located on the second floor of the Birkam Health Center in the middle of our campus, is a resource for students with all types of personal emotional issues. Licensed counselors and psychologists are available to your son/daughter confidentially and at no charge. You can visit our website under "Current Students", "Health and Wellness" on the Ferris home page Click on Personal Counseling Center at the top right of this page
