Assessment Action Plan for the 2008-2009 Academic Year

As a result of the various assessments of Multicultural Student Services programming for the 2007-2008 academic year, OMSS has come up with the following recommendations for improvement:

  1. College Day/GEARUP:

For the 2008-2009 academic year College Day Visits and GEARUP Visits/Camps coordination will consist of improved orientation of CD/GU volunteers and participants. OMSS plans to capitalize on faculty relationships already existing and look to extend to other faculty and staff that can assist with this initiative to make prospective FSU students' visit educationally and socially fulfilling. OMSS will also continue with successes of College Day and GEARUP coordination of prospective FSU students having an interactive educational experience here on campus. Our overall goal is that College Day and GEARUP participants will be better informed of the opportunities that an FSU education presents.

  2. Speakers & Performances:

For the 2008-2009 academic year OMSS seeks to improve the quality and substance of featured speakers and performances. Involving interested students, faculty/staff and adequate research of relevant areas to focus on for speakers and performances at FSU will assist in this improvement. We will also continue to be consistent with providing co-curricular involvement in these presentations so that faculty, registered student organizations and Residential Life can support these presentations. OMSS will continue to seek collaborations with other departments on campus to bring quality presentations to main campus for the upcoming year.

  3. Cultural Months & Initiatives:

For the 2008-2009 academic year OMSS seeks to improve cultural months and initiatives by collaborating with and empowering student organizations on campus. Through meeting and counseling throughout the year, OMSS will proactively seek out opportunities for student organizations to get involved in the planning, hosting, and participation of initiatives. Events throughout Hispanic Heritage Month to Women's History Month have proven to be successful the more OMSS involves students, so we plan on continuing to do so. In addition, OMSS will creatively find ways to host conference and development opportunities for student leaders to get involved.

  4. Alumni Events:

For the 2008-2009 academic year OMSS will create opportunities for Alumni and current students to network and establish relationships for the future. Also, OMSS will continue to foster events that invite alumni to come back home to campus here at Ferris State University, and strengthen the connection with the university. Through consistent communication and advertising we will look to receive FSU alumni opinions and support for future events.
