An annual pelvic and breast exam is recommended for all females 21 years of age and older. A PAP smear is recommended every 2 years, starting at age 21. The purpose of the PAP smear is to detect cancerous or precancerous changes of the cervix. Treatment with colposcopy and cryosurgery is available as needed. It is important to avoid intercourse, douching or insertion of vaginal creams for 24-48 hours prior to your exam to insure a good PAP specimen. During the annual exam your height, weight, blood pressure, urinalysis, and hemoglobin are checked. This service is by appointment only.
Confidential assessment and testing for sexually transmitted diseases and other vaginal or urinary infections are offered. We provide prompt medical treatment and follow-up care as needed.
The Health Center offers confidential pregnancy testing. A blood test is done. The specimen is sent to Mecosta County Medical Center’s lab and results are given the following day. No appointment is needed for this service.
