Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Engineering Technology and Energy Management

While the majority of instruction for this degree is offered online, a limited amount of travel to the Big Rapids campus is required. See the program schedule in the online program page for more information.

Why Choose HVEM Engineering Technology and Energy Management?
The Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVACR) Engineering Technology and Energy Management curriculum is a two-year, upper-division sequence leading to a bachelor of science degree. The HVEM degree addresses designing, retrofitting, testing, and balancing on a problem-solving level and prepares the HVACR engineering technologist to fill a wide technological gap between the service technicians and engineers.

Students learn up-to-date methods of identifying and performing efficiency evaluations on different types of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems found in commercial and industrial buildings. They also learn methods of adjusting and balancing equipment for maximum performance.

Prepare for a Great Career
The HVEM degree addresses designing, retrofitting, testing and balancing on a problem-solving level and prepares the HVACR engineering technologist to fill a wide technological gap between the service technicians and engineers. Challenging careers abound on a national level with firms who look for trained HVACR engineering technicians for a variety of positions:  application and/or project engineering, systems control, estimating, engineering, field technician, systems reps, marketing, control systems training, and HVACR in-plant engineering.

Online Orientation
Orientation is required for students who elect to complete a fully online degree.  In addition, any student who registers for a fully online course must first demonstrate competency in FerrisConnect skills.  This may be done by taking a tutorial and quiz or by submitting a waiver request (for those who have already taken and passed online courses).  First check with the department that offers the class and/or the Ferris advisor to determine their particular needs regarding registration for online course work.

General Admission Requirements
To be admitted to this degree, students must have completed the Associate of Applied Science Degree in an HVACR Engineering or related technical area or equivalent with a minimum GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale), and completion or competency in the following Ferris courses or their direct equivalents:  ENGL 150, ENGL 250 or ENGL 211, MATH 115 or MATH 116, and four credit hours in a science course (lab or non-lab).  Official transcripts from all accredited colleges/universities must be submitted with the Ferris application.  Financial aid is available and may include concurrent enrollment at both institutions.

IMPORTANT!

If you think you meet the entrance criteria and want to apply, or simply want to find out if you are eligible to enroll, get your admissions process started using the following URL:
