Summer Internships: Yuriy Trubnikov

Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.

Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet:

Ferris State UniversityYuriy Trubnikov

He is: A graduate from Bellingham, Washington, studying HVAC Engineering Technology.

His Internship: Yuriy is in Redmond, Washington, at one of the key offices for Honeywell, where he is studying the technical aspects of HVAC control systems and building automation, along with safety training. “I am learning key processes in managing and prioritizing customer jobs. I am also learning how to communicate and manage customers in a way as to leverage effective customer relationships to drive the business.”

How he found his internship: “The fact that I am a Ferris HVACR student brought a lot of attention from companies looking for future qualified employees. The University also hosted multiple job fairs, which attracted a lot of companies.”

Future Plans: “I believe the ultimate goal behind every internship, including this one, is to network and get your name out there, as well as to gain some experience. This opportunity helps me to better understand the industry. By using this experience, as well as the connections that I established, I would hope to lock down a job in the future.”

Activities at Ferris: Yuriy is involved with the ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers) as well as MSCA (Mechanical Service Contractors of America)
