A message of optimism and mental conditioning will offered in the University Center
on Monday, Dec. 4, as author and speaker Joshua Medcalf is featured in a Five-Star
event, sponsored by Ferris State University’s chapter of the American Marketing Association.
Medcalf’s presentation begins at 7 p.m. in the UC Ballroom, according to AMA Ferris
President Keegan Brown.
“I understand that Medcalf chose to work in a Los Angeles homeless shelter, rather than accept scholarships to a law school in the eastern part of the country,” Brown said. “He has taken a message of ‘love people, serve people and provide value’ and developed this philosophy to become a leading authority on mental conditioning, leadership and life skills. He is one of just two people invited to offer his mental conditioning message to the heralded women’s soccer team at the University of North Carolina, and we expect Joshua will help our audience consider their education, or life situation with a positive mindset.”
Medcalf has written or co-authored five books, including the 2014 best-seller, “Burn Your Goals: The Counter Cultural Approach to Achieving Your Greatest Potential,” as well as “Pound the Stone: 7 Lessons to Develop Grit on the Path to Mastery,” which was published in May of this year. Brown said Medcalf’s presentation is free and open to the public, as well as the Ferris campus community.
“Joshua encourages his audiences to find value in the type of person they are, instead of what they have accomplished,” Brown said. “He has more of an internal, vs. an aesthetic self-interpretation. With people focused on making themselves look good with a social media ‘selfie,’ Medcalf charges us to be optimistic, and to strive to realize our true purpose. Our organization believes Joshua is addressing an important aspect of any individual’s growth and development.”
