Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships.
Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability,
develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require
one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better
understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.
Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet:
Scout Sparks
She is: a senior from Fowlerville, Mich., majoring in Human Resource Management.
Her Internship: Scout worked with the staff at Fremont Insurance, in Fremont, Mich. Her efforts were focused on recruitment, including sourcing for open positions with the company, arranging aspects of the company’s summer picnic, and handling promotions for an event in their employee wellness campaign.
Future Plans: “This internship has exposed me to human resource prospects, including recruitment, and benefits. It’s possible I may try to pursue a human relations position with a hospital.”
Other Interests at Ferris: Scout continues as a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America, having served on its executive board last year.
Ferris Core Value she Relates to: Collaboration. “In the PRSSA, we work with various registered student organizations on campus to promote their events, and goals.”
Making a Difference in Her Internship: “I feel like my contributions support my supervisors, and allow them to focus on other
duties. I found my work at Fremont Insurance to be fulfilling.”
