Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships.
Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability,
develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require
one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better
understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.
Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet:
Mitchell Saum
He is: a senior from Grand Rapids, in Computer Information Technology.
His Internship: Mitchell joined the Client Services staff at Meijer, Incorporated’s corporate headquarters in Walker, Mich. This was his first internship.
Future Plans: “I would hope to land a job with Meijer when I graduate.”
Advice for Other Students Seeking Internships: “Don’t give up, if your first attempts don’t succeed, keep applying!”
Other Ferris Activities: Mitchell is a member of the Association of Information Technology Professionals.
Making a Difference at Meijer: ”I have helped out fellow team members, by taking two project assignments. This work
would have burdened them if I had not participated in this internship.”
