Ferris PR Students Give Back to Mecosta County Children during Holiday Season

The Ferris State University chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America is hosting a fundraiser opportunity for faculty, staff and students to sponsor a homemade blanket made by PRSSA members at a cost of $15 apiece. PRSSA started to collect money for the blankets on Nov. 9 and will continue to accept money through Friday, Nov. 20.

Once a blanket is sponsored, PRSSA members will purchase the supplies and craft the blankets that will Public Relations Student Society of Americabe donated to children in Mecosta County. This effort is a collaboration between the students of PRSSA and the organization’s philanthropy, Angels of Action, a local nonprofit organization that provides lunches and backpacks to Mecosta County children.

“Angels of Action is thrilled to work with PRSSA on a project like this. We have been looking for new ways to surprise the children, and this is a great idea,” said Joni Thompson, founder of AOA. “Now that it is getting colder out, too, I know many children will appreciate something like this to keep warm.”

Angels of Action was started by three women: Joni Thompson, Stephanie Woodworth and Julie Miller. The project started in June 2011 as AOA held its first food drive and filled more than 150 backpacks. AOA organizes annual fundraising events and offers many ways to volunteer and help local underprivileged children.
