Information Security and Intelligence Senior Enjoyed Local Internship at Spectrum Health

Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.

Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet: Robert Dean:

Robert DeanHe is: A senior in the Information Security and Intelligence program from Big Rapids, Mich.

Internship: Dean is a Security Engineering intern at Spectrum Health in Big Rapids.

What he is learning: The main job Dean had was shadowing, he shadowed a team doing log reviews and handling cases. He has learned how to make a Malware Analysis Lab, which was something that he was not familiar with prior to his internship.  Coming in to this internship, he had to learn hands-on and he has learned a lot through being thrown into these situations. Dean also did some interviews to gather information.

His future plans: Dean hopes to do Reverse Malware Engineering as his capstone and hopefully, he’ll be able to work part-time with Spectrum Health.

His advice: Fix up your resume. Once you have a clean resume, it makes you look more professional and more job interviews can come out of that. Within an interview, don’t be afraid to glow and show your strong suits.
